Most of Tuesday’s primary-election results are in across Pennsylvania, and victories are surfacing.
Joe Sestak has taken down longtime Sen. Arlen Specter for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He will face Pat Toomey in November.
Democrat Dan Onorato will face Republican Tom Corbett in the general-election race for governor, and the Centre Region’s own Scott Conklin, a Democrat, is leading a close race for the chance to face Republican Jim Cawley for lieutenant governor. (As of early Wednesday morning, a final vote count in that contest had yet to be completed.)
In Centre County elections:
- Democrat Michael Pipe will face incumbent Republican Glenn Thompson for the 5th District seat in the U.S. House. Both ran unopposed in their parties’ respective primaries.
- Democrat Jon Eich will face incumbent Republican Jake Corman for the 34th Senatorial District seat in the General Assembly. Both ran unopposed in the primaries.
- Incumbent Democrat Mike Hanna will face Republican Daryl Schafer for the 76th District seat in the state House. Both ran unopposed in the primaries.
- Incumbent Democrat Scott Conklin will face Republican Joyce Haas for the 77th District seat in the state House. Conklin ran unopposed in the Democratic primary; Haas defeated opponent Ron Reese on the GOP side.
- Incumbent Republican Kerry Benninghoff will not see a Democratic challenger this fall on the ballot for the 171st District seat.
