Traffic is expected to be slow(er)-going in Lemont next week as work on the Pike Street traffic calming and accessibility project continues.
Intermittent closures of the street are anticipated the week of June 20 pipe crossing work, according to an alert from College Township.
“Expect significant delays [and] find alternate routes, if possible,” the alert stated.
Throughout the project, which is expected to conclude in mid-October, traffic on Pike Street is one-way heading northeast toward East College Avenue between Elmwood and Dale Streets. Construction activities will occur on one side of Pike Street, while traffic is directed through the opposite lane.
Drivers looking to come from College Avenue to points beyond Dale Street are being detoured to turn left onto Elmwood Street, which can then be followed to the Pike Street intersection.
Current work is phase two of the Pike Street project, which includes curbing, stormwater upgrades, delineated parallel parking, curb ramps and full sidewalk along both sides of Pike Street between Elmwood and Dale streets. Phase one, which was completed in 2021, included water and gas line relocations.
Bowman Excavating, Paving and Concrete of Bellefonte is the contractor on the $1.5 million project. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent.
