Penn State’s Ag Progress Days is set to return for its 49th year at Rock Springs, and Ferguson Township police are advising residents and visitors to plan for heavy traffic in the west end of the township during the three-day event.
The outdoor agricultural exposition, which annually draws up to 50,000 people, will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursday at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center on Route 45.
“Significant traffic congestion” is expected on West College Avenue (Route 26), Pine Grove Road (Route 45) and West Whitehall Road in and near Pine Grove Mills, particularly during rush hours, township police said in an advisory this week. If possible, drivers should avoid the area.
“Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, expect delays and consider alternate routes whenever possible,” police wrote.
Nixon Road will be closed between West Whitehall Road and Pine Grove Road from 3 to 7 p.m. each day. Local residents only will be able to access Nixon Road from Whitehall Road.
Extra personnel will be on duty to manage traffic congestion, but some delays will be unavoidable, according to the advisory.
“Drivers are also reminded to remain alert for police officers directing traffic,” police wrote. “For everyone’s safety, please follow their instructions, remain attentive, reduce your speed and do not stop to ask questions.”
