Centre County’s limestone-rich bedrock struck again over the weekend.
A large sinkhole opened up, Sunday, on Saratoga Drive in a suburban neighborhood off of West College Avenue.
The sinkhole is approximately 20 feet wide, 20 feet long and 15 feet deep.
A section of Saratoga Drive is closed until construction crews are able to repair the road.
Ferguson township is asking drivers to avoid using the road for the time being.
Workers at the scene tell StateCollege.com that the problem should be fixed in about a day and the road will be re-open soon after. They also say the sinkhole doesn’t pose any threat to the nearby houses.
Sinkholes aren’t uncommon in the area — just to the side of Saratoga Drive is a storm basin with another sinkhole.
This is the second sinkhole to cause a road closure in recent days. The other closed Bigler Road on Penn State’s campus.
