Election Day is just not the same without controversy, vandalism, and smear campaigns.
In the past week, many residents reported receiving letters in the mail smearing Scott and Terri Conkin’s financial dealings. According to Centre County Democrats, nothing in that letter is true.
In an e-mail response to the letters, Scott Conklin said that “the Richard Payne letter is nothing more than a Barbara Spencer Campaign ploy.” Conklin stated that he is not involved in a bad financial situation with Payne. Conklin went further, explaining that Payne is in the midst of a “very, very, very bitter divorce” with his mother-in-law. He believes that Payne is working with Barbara to hurt his campaign.
In another act of political disagreement, police reported another theft of political signs Monday. The report notes that around 4 signs were stolen from a yard located at 322 W. Fairmount Avenue. The report did not state which party or candidate the signs were promoting.
