Classes will be back in session for a State College elementary school on Friday after an early dismissal on Thursday because of a water main break.
Easterly Parkway Elementary students were dismissed at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday because there was no water in the bathrooms and toilets could not be flushed due to the break, State College Area School District wrote in a message to families.
A parent pick-up loop was directed by administrators and police and students who ride buses were provided transportation starting at 12:20 p.m., according to the message. Students who normally walk were not sent home without a guardian.
Students received lunch in their classrooms before dismissal.
The district wrote in an update at about 2 p.m. Thursday that the issue had been resolved and the school would be open on Friday, noting that at the time the decision to dismiss early was made it was unknown when the break would be fixed.
“I’d also like to express our gratitude to our students, faculty, staff, administrators, and law enforcement for being so helpful and kind throughout this issue,” the update stated.
