State College Area High School Ranked Among Top 50 in Pennsylvania by U.S. News & World Report

State College Area High School is among the top 50 public high schools in Pennsylvania and in the top 8% in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s newly released Best High Schools rankings.

State High led Centre County public schools in the rankings at No. 45 in the state and No. 1,285 in the country. All five of the public high schools located in Centre County mostly improved their rankings over last year, with four ranked in the top half of Pennsylvania schools.

Among other local schools, Penns Valley was ranked No. 150 in Pennsylvania, followed by Bald Eagle Area (255), Bellefonte (287) and Philipsburg-Osceola (440).

U.S. News and World Report ranked 17,843 public high schools with a methodology focused on college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.

Pennsylvania is 15th in the country with 183 of 676 eligible high schools (27.1%) ranked in the top quarter nationally.

Julia R. Masterman Secondary School in Philadelphia is the top-ranked Pennsylvania school and No. 10 in the country.

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
