State College Spikes Thump Jamestown 12-4 to Tie First Round Playoff Series

Just like the night before, the Spikes found themselves down in the early stages of the game but this time State College battled back in a big way, winning 12-4 over the Jamestown Jammers to force a deciding Game 3 on Sunday night.

Behind a strong performance by the bullpen that registered 14 strikeouts, State College scored in six different innings after giving up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Spikes bounced back scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning and the bottom of the third inning to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 lead.

Jamestown cut the lead to only one run in the top of the fourth inning but a solo homerun by third baseman Carson Kelly in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Spikes a 5-3 lead.

Kelly’s long ball opened the floodgates for a talented Spikes’ squad that scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jamestown could only muster one more run in the top of the seventh to make it 9-4 but State College responded again, in front of a rowdy home crowd, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and two runs in the bottom of the eight.

State College hit the ball like they have all season, registering 16 hits and capitalizing on three Jamestown errors in the first-ever home playoff game in franchise history.

The Spikes will take on Jamestown for the final game of the three game series Sunday night at 7:05 for the right to advance in the playoff bracket.
