Movies

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes,’ a prequel set in modern-day San Francisco, combines human acting and technological prowess to create very human-like ape characters. It continues to show this weekend at the College 9 Theatre and the UEC 12 Theater — and has gotten good reviews from StateCollege.com readers.

At the Cinema 6 discount theater, ‘A Better Life,’ about a gardener in East Los Angeles, is among the films playing this weekend. The lead character struggles to keep his son far from gangs and immigration officials, working to give the youth opportunities that he never had.

It’s worth noting that Cinema 6, which offers movie-showing tickets for $1 apiece, is expected to close Sunday.
