The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and the People’s Choice Festival of Pennsylvania Arts and Crafts continue downtown and at the Pennsylvania Military Museum grounds in Boalsburg. Add AstroFest and BookFestPA and there is lots — and lots — to do this weekend in the State College area. As always, we’re here to help you decide how to spend your weekend. Friday, July 15
Movies
The saga continues – and ends? – in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” at College 9 Theatre and UEC 12 Theater, with showings throughout the day and weekend. Our wizard heroes Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue their quest to find and destroy the Dark Lord’s three remaining Horcruxes, the magical items responsible for his immortality.
For those interested in a change of pace, “Winnie the Pooh” is also being shown at UEC 12 Theater. Our ursine hero sets off to find some honey and, of course, gets into all sorts of misadventures.
“Moonstruck” is this week’s offering in The State Theatre’s Friday Night Favorites Film Series, with showings at 4, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Music
Ted McCloskey and the Hi-Fi’s play at the Allen Street Stage at 6 p.m.; Cartoon re-unes in Schwab Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.; Joe Bonson and Coffee Run will perform two sets (5 and 7 p.m.) at People’s Choice. Later, Mr. Hand will be at the Rathskeller and Spider Kelly at Darkhorse, both beginning at 10 p.m. Both festivals and most of the downtown bars offer even more musical choices.
Theater
Penn State NU Musical Theatre presents “Bubble Boy the Musical” at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Citizens Bank Downtown Theatre as part of the Arts Festival.
Good Heavens
AstroFest, four-night festival of astronomy gives participants the opportunity to stargaze through the telescopes on the roof of Davey Lab on the Penn State campus.
Food

Saturday’s festival highlights include Burgess, Mitchell and Seal (boogie-woogie to ballads) at 3:30 p.m. at the Festival Shell, the Zak Sobel Band (indie) at 4 p.m. on the Allen Street Stage, Deirdre Flint (satirical folk) at 6 p.m. on the Allen Street Stage, The Rustlanders (combining country, blues, rock and bluegrass) at 10 p.m. on the Allen Street Stage, and Velveeta (’80s cheese cover tunes) at 10 p.m. at the Festival Shell.
Classical
Musicians from ‘Music at Penn’s Woods’ will bring classical music to the Arts Festival with a program of duos and trios at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 3 p.m.
Theater
‘How Can You Run With a Shell on Your Back’ presented by by the Penn State NU Musical Theatre at 10 a.m. at Citizens Bank Downtown Threatre.
Sunday, July 17
Concluding
The arts festivals end Sunday. You won’t want to miss the traditional closing concert by local reggae legends The Earthtones at 3:30 p.m. at the Festival Shell.
Sports
The State College Spikes are back home with a 6:05 p.m. game with the arch-rival Williamsport Crosscutters. The festivities will include a salute to military veterans and post-game patriotic fireworks.
