Friday, June 10
Movies
‘X-Men: First Class’ is playing at the College 9 Theatre and the UEC 12 Theatre. Featuring James McAvoy, Laurence Belcher, Kevin Bacon and Jennifer Lawrence, among others, the plot follow Charles Xavier as he opens a school for humans with superhuman abilities.
At the Cinema 6 Discount Theater, ‘Soul Surfer’ follows a teenage surfer girl who loses an arm in a shark attack, but finds the courage to go back in the water.

Live Performances
Singing Onstage will present ‘Into the Woods,’ a musical featuring a cast of fairy-tale characters, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the State Theatre in State College.
In College Township, the Lemont Concert Series will kick off at 7:30 p.m. with Turkish folk songs by Turkozan. The concerts are held on the Village Green.
State College Community Theatre is set to present ‘No Sex Please, We’re British,’ a comedy, at the Boal Barn Playhouse in Boalsburg. The show, about a young bride mistakenly inundated with pornography, is scheduled for 8 p.m.; the production is to continue through June 18.
Dreams and Bones, an acoustic trio, will play at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center in Petersburg, kicking off the Evenings of Music series there. The concert, to begin at 6:30 p.m., is expected to feature a mixture of original Americana compositions, classic folk tunes and acoustic rock.
The Penn State School of Theatre will present ‘Five Guys Named Moe,’ a musical that follows a man named Nomax after his girlfriend leaves him. The production, to continue through June 25, is scheduled Friday for an 8 p.m. show at the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center on South Allen Street, State College.
Food
The State College Downtown Farmers Market continues on Locust Lane (across from the HUB lawn) between College Avenue and Beaver Avenue. The market is held Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Most of the fruits and vegetables sold are seasonal. Some of the vendors sell baked goods, canned goods and crafts all season long. All vendors produce or grow what they sell.

Bars and Clubs
The Autoport in State College will feature happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. Brad Fey and the Feats of Strength will play starting at 8 p.m.
At Bar Bleu in State College, happy hour will run from 9 to 11 p.m. Lowjack will play starting at 10:30 p.m.
In Toftrees, Bethanne and Dick will play at Down Under Steakhouse starting at 8 p.m. And at the Gingerbread Man in State College, DJ Boner will entertain starting at 10 p.m.

Sports
The Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games kicked off earlier this week and will continue through Saturday on the Penn State University Park campus. All events are open to the public. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged, as well. A link to the official Summer Games website, along with a link to Torch Run photos, is included in StateCollege.com’s earlier coverage. Community Events
The State College Area High School will hold its annual commencement proceedings at 11 a.m. at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center. Graduation is open to the public.
At Cafe 210 West in State College, The Second Mile Charity Jam will begin at 5 p.m. It’s set to feature four bands: the Screaming Ducks, Pure Cane Sugar, Ted and the HiFi’s, and noEZway.
Food
Lemont will host its 30th annual Strawberry Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Village Green. Fresh strawberries, homemade cakes, smoothies and lemonade all will be available. Live music, pony rides and children’s activities are scheduled, as well. Event proceeds will benefit the Granary Project of the Lemont Village Association. Tours of the Granary will be available on request.

Sunday, June 12
Film
The State Theatre in State College will play the 2011 film ‘Jane Eyre’ at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Showings of ‘Jane Eyre’ at the State will continue through June 16.
Special Event
Toftrees Golf Club will host its second annual Family Golf Festival from noon to 3 p.m. Free golf activities, including complimentary golf for kids after 3 p.m., are planned. Reservations are recommended; more details are available on the event page at StateCollege.com.
Live Music
South Hills School of Business and Technology will host the Jay T. Vonada Quartet in the second concert of the school’s Music Picnic series.The picnic is scheduled to start at 5 p.m., with music to follow at 6 p.m. The gathering will be held on the school grounds on Waupelani Drive in State College.
The Bellefonte Community Band will play in Bellefonte’s Summer Sounds from the Gazebo series. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Talleyrand Park. Organizers suggest that attendees bring lawn chairs or blankets.
