A Pete Haffner touchdown run late in the fourth quarter clinched a wild, 35-28 victory for State College over Harrisburg Friday night at Memorial Field.

The win moves the Little Lions to 8-0, while the Cougars fell to 5-3.

Down 14-7 at halftime, State High roared back in the second half to take a 28-14 lead. Harrisburg wasn’t done either, bouncing back with a pair of scores to knot the game 28-28 with just under seven minutes left.

An interception by junior Paul Olivet set up the Little Lions to take the lead and Haffner rumbled in for the score, his third of the game. Haffner carried 35 times for 185 rushing yards. State High’s other two scores came on touchdown passes from senior quarterback Tyler Snyder to junior receiver Brandon Clark.

After Haffner’s score, Harrisburg drove down the field but ran out of time.

‘No matter what’s going on, through the ups and downs, they stand together and they never quit,’ State High Coach Matt Lintal said of his team.

State High next travels to 1-7 Chambersburg for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
