Statement: State College Administrator Reported Personnel Issue

State College schools Superintendent Richard Mextorf brought a personnel issue to the attention of the local school board this month, the school district reported late Monday.

In a brief statement released by district spokeswoman Julie Miller, the situation was described this way:

‘On Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, Dr. Richard Mextorf, superintendent of the State College Area School District, made the Board of School Directors aware of a personnel issue. As with any district employee, this is a private, personnel matter and will be handled as such. Further comment will be made as appropriate.’

Miller, reached by phone Monday evening, said she could not field questions on the matter. She also shared the prepared statement with district employees. Via e-mail, she told them that the statement was being distributed to the news media ‘in response to an article posted by the (Centre Daily Times).’

An e-mail message sent by StateCollege.com to Mextorf’s school-district account last week had not been answered by early Monday evening.

At the school-board meeting held last week, Mextorf was not in attendance; instead, the district’s business administrator, Jeffrey Ammerman, filled the seat that’s normally held by the superintendent.

Mextorf was the superintendent in the Loyalsock Township School District, in Lycoming County, before succeeding Patricia Best as State College Area superintendent in mid-2009. He is a Penn State alumnus.
