The first of October means many things for Penn State students.
The leaves begin to change colors, the first round of exams has passed, and the countdown to Halloween — a major event for college students — begins.
But for many students, the start of the month arrived to the tune of an all-nighter on cold pavement downtown.
Students lined up on Beaver Avenue outside Alexander Court starting early Wednesday morning, and came prepared with tents, chairs, food, and things to keep themselves warm.
Casey Jordan (freshman-premedicine) and Elizabeth Gallagher (freshman-division of undergraduate studies), both current residents of the dorms of Pollock Halls, began bundling up at 11 p.m. Wednesday
They tried sleeping on the pavement at first, but only slept for about an hour because of the cold, uncomfortable ground.
Jordan and Gallagher are trying to get a lease for the 2010-2011 school year in the Diplomat.
