The State College area is expected to see both sun and rain – and maybe snow – this weekend.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines says Saturday will be sunny and mild with temperatures in the 40s.

“It should be a pretty good day out there,” says Kines.

But on Sunday, rain will come into the region as a storm pushes up from the south.

As the storm moves out of the region Sunday night, precipitation could change to snow, says Kines.

“As the storm moves away from us Sunday evening, it may turn to snow for a period of time, especially over higher terrain,” says Kines.

Depending on how cold temperatures are Sunday, there could be some snow accumulation. Right now, the low for Sunday is expected to be in the mid-30s.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, which is New Year’s Eve, Kines said it will be dry, but cold with the highs only in the 20s. The temperature is expected to drop down into the teens Tuesday night.

“People outside are going to have to bundle up,” says Kines.
