Happy Friday, Happy Valley!

The last weekend in July is filled with things to do, including FarmFest, the Last Cruise, outdoors events, theater, concerts and much more.

We’ve compiled some of the weekend’s highlights below.

FRIDAY

FarmFest
Pennsylvania Certified Organic hosts its sixth annual FarmFest from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Grange Fairgrounds. A celebration of organic agriculture and sustainable living, FarmFest features organic food, educational workshops, exhibitors, artisans, children’s activities and live music, among other events. Friday Night Swim
The Welch and Park Forest Community Pools are open until 10 p.m. every Friday night in July. [Details]

Mixology 101
The Makery, 209 West Calder Way, hosts Mixology 101, an herbal cocktail-creating workshop, from 6-7:30 p.m. Big Spring Spirits mixologist Brandon Wagner will show how to create refreshing concoctions using local summer herbs. Cost is $30 per person. [Register]

The Art and Science of Beer
The State College Homebrew Club presents the first in a series of talks on ‘The Art and Science of Beer’ at 7 p.m. In the Attic at The State Theatre. The opening talk will feature India Pale Ales (IPAs) and their various styles. The event is aimed at sharing beer and brewing knowledge with craft beer enthusiasts and anyone interested in finding out more about home brewing. Samples will be available for discussion and social time and ID is required. [Tickets]

‘Annie’
Hidden Talent Community Theatre, a newly formed community theater in Centre County, presents its production of ‘Annie,’ on Friday and Saturday at Bellefonte Area High School Auditorium. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. [Tickets

Concert on the Village Green
The annual summer Friday night concert series continues at 7:30 p.m. with OverheaD playing classic rock on the Village Green in Lemont.


SATURDAY

Flutopia 5k
The area’s most musical 5k, Flutopia 5k is back for a fifth year, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Tudek Park. Racers, joggers and walkers will make their way through the butterfly garden, over the scenic hills, past the dog park and community garden, while being serenaded by a variety of local musicians. The 5k benefits Centre Volunteers in Medicine and Doctors Without Borders.

Better Birding with Technology
Experienced naturalists John Smith and Joe Gyekis will demonstrate how to use a site they’ve developed to learn what birds have been recently sighted in your area, or in a place you’re planning to visit. Their presentation will be at 10 a.m. at Rhoneymeade Arboretum & Sculpture Garden, 177 Rimmey Road, Centre Hall, where you can do some birding as well.

For Moms, By Moms
A vendor event for moms to sell their own wares and to browse and shop, For Moms, By Moms will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at State College Friends School, 1900 University Drive.

Wibit Obstacle Course
A Wibit inflatable obstacle course will be available to challenge and enjoy all day at Park Forest Pool, open from noon to 8 p.m.

‘Man of La Mancha’
Nittany Theatre at the Barn’s production of ‘Man of La Mancha,’ the classic musical tale of Don Quixote, continues with a performance at 7:30 p.m. a the Boal Barn Playhouse in Boalsburg. The show continues Tuesday through Saturday. [Tickets]


SUNDAY

Toftrees Family Golf Festival
Toftrees Golf Resort will host its annual Family Golf Festival from noon to 2 p.m. Golfers of all ages and their families are invited to come out for a fun-filled day of free activities, contests, instruction and prizes. Participating families also will have access to the Toftrees pool for free use throughout the event. After 2 p.m. participating families will be granted free rounds of golf for one hour. Last Cruise
The annual “best of the best” car show on Allen Street in downtown State College, the Last Cruise features participants who are invited based on their success in other competitions and the quality of their vehicles. The invitational car show is one of four major fundraising events Centre County Youth Services Bureau holds yearly to raise money for the programs it serves. The day starts with a car show from 1-4 p.m., followed by an award ceremony at 4 p.m. and the cruise around downtown from 4:30-6 p.m..

Centred Outdoors Guided Adventure
The new Centred Outdoors Summer Challenge continues at 2 p.m. at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center. Walk along the boardwalk to discover the unique features of the marsh and fen ecosystems. Learn how Native Americans used the site, and out about its connection to the former Farmer’s High School, now known as Penn State, and enjoy wildlife viewing. The event will be held again at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Seven Mountains Summer Music Fest
The Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra hosts its annual Seven Mountains Summer Music Fest starting at 2 p.m. at Seven Mountains Wine Cellars, 324 Decker Valley Road, Spring Mills. Tickets for the benefit concert are $35 per person and include one glass of wine or alternate beverage and hors d’oeuvres. 

Cruisin’ Classics
After the Last Cruise, head over to The State Theatre for the second annual Cruisin’ Classics concert, with local musicians paying tribute to radio hits of the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Ramalama, Elizabeth Webb and The Spiders, Eric Ian Farmer with Rick Hirsch and Friends, and Jackie Brown & The Gill Street Band will perform.

Spikes vs. Auburn
The State College Spikes welcome the Auburn Doubledays to Medlar Field for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch. It’s Paint the Park Pink Night to raise funds and awareness for the battle against breast cancer, and the Spikes will wear pink, boxer robe-themed jerseys that will be auctioned to benefit the Mount Nittany Health Foundation. The first 1,000 fans will receive a poster featuring the Spikes in the special jerseys. It’s also a fireworks night, with a post-game fireworks show. Before the game fans can play catch on the field from 5-5:30 p.m. and after the game kids can run the bases. 

Music Picnic Series
South Hills School of Business & Technology continues its 2017 Music Picnic Series at 6 p.m. with the Wagner Goldstein Jazz Project. These free, outdoor concerts are held rain or shine on the lawn at South Hills, 480 Waupelani Drive. All are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and a picnic supper. Refreshments and light picnic fare are available for purchase. Grounds open at 5 p.m.; music starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 p.m.

Summer Sounds from the Gazebo
A Bellefonte summer tradition, Summer Sounds from The Gazebo in Talleyrand Park returns for free concerts every Sunday through Aug. 13. This week Parlor Pickers performs at 7 p.m. Blankets or lawn chairs are suggested.
