Editor’s note: Today’s guest column is an offering of two recent poems by State College resident Doris Myers.

NOW

Life is a very temporary gift.

Its qualities can turn and twist.

Enjoy each minute of every day.

Don’t forget to take the time to play.

If you are sad and feeling blue,

Just remember the good times too.

It’s important to savor each moment you are alive.

Any second life can take a ‘hard-nose-drive’!

If it gets you down, then just go up!

It is up to you, simply do it , and not interrupt.

Then climb to heights you never knew.

How high you go is up to you.

Because one day you will ascend,

And this life you know will surely end!

So plan ahead, but still do NOW,

Many things before your final bow.

Time can escape you and what you thought

You carefully planned had come to naught.

So, do it now, like right away!

You may not have another day!

THE DISEASE OF CANCER

I awoke to see the morning light,

After sleeping deeply through the night.

When I had closed my eyed the stars were bright.

I wasn’t sure if I actually might,

Live to see another day,

As if my life would end that way.

At this golden moment I am happy to say,

That for another night my head will lay

Upon a pillow that comforts me.

Will I awake again, once more to see

The flowers that bloom beneath my tree ?

May I feel the touch of a soft and quiet breeze,

And laugh and cry, and be free of this disease ?

Can I kill this Cancer, before it kills me ?

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
