The two former Penn State administrators facing a Jan. 7 trial on charges of felony perjury and a summary count of failure to report have asked for their trial to be pushed back.
According to court documents, former Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and former Penn State Vice President Gary Schultz each filed a motion for continuance this past week with the Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania.
On Sept. 27, Judge Todd Hoover upheld the perjury charges against the men. Attorneys for Curley and Schultz had asked the court to dismiss the charge due to a lack of corroborating evidence that they lied to a grand jury about what they knew regarding Jerry Sandusky’s rampant child sexual abuse while they worked at Penn State and while Sanduksy was still allowed on Penn State’s campus.
The summary charge was filed in connection with the incident in which former Penn State assistant coach and then-graduate student Mike McQueary reportedly saw Jerry Sandusky abusing a boy in the Lasch Football Building locker room shower. Prosecutors originally said the date of the incident was in 2002, later changing it to Feb. 9, 2001.
Sandusky, 68, was sentenced on Oct. 9 in Bellefonte to 30-60 years behind bars for his sex crimes. He is currently in Camp Hill Prison, about two hours away from Centre County.
Schultz has since retired from Penn State and Curley was placed on administrative leave but university officials recently announced Curley’s contract would not be renewed.
