U.S. Sen. Patrick Toomey will stop in Centre County Tuesday as part of his re-election campaign’s statewide bus tour. The Republican incumbent is scheduled to visit Champs Sports Grill, 1611 N. Atherton St., from 6-7 p.m.

Toomey is locked in a close race with Democratic challenger Katie McGinty, a former Chief of Staff to Gov. Tom Wolfe and state Secretary of Environmental Protection under Gov. Ed Rendell. McGinty has a slight edge in most recent polls, after Toomey had held leads in a projected match-up during primary season and head-to-head earlier this summer.

Toomey, who is seeking his second term in the Senate, is expected to stop in 26 counties this week after kicking the road trip in Northeastern Pennsylvania on Sunday. The ‘Keeping PA Safe’ tour is focused on security issues, though not to the exclusion of other matters. He opened a speech in Towanda on Sunday afternoon criticizing the current state of the U.S. economy before moving on to immigration, sanctuary cities and the Iran nuclear deal.

Those interested in attending the Toomey event at Champs can register here.
