Penn State fans can get a unique experience from Thursday through Sunday, teeing off from the second level of the south end of Beaver Stadium, launching golf balls as far as they can go. The event, organized by Topgolf as part of its Live Stadium Tour, will feature shot tracing displays and other on-site technology to give fans an undeniably unique experience.
A golf simulator and a few other golf themed items inside Beaver Stadium will give patrons a chance to enjoy the game and the views a few different ways. That said, there’s no doubt that walking out onto the raised golfing platforms and looking out over the field is the featured experience.
‘”I’m going with a 10 out of 10,” project coordinator Mark Rykojc said on Wednesday, asked about his excitement for the event. “When it comes to college football stadiums, I mean, this is definitely one of the more iconic stadiums here Beaver Stadium. From the White Out games to now being able to hit golf balls directly onto the field… I mean, you can’t beat it, a once in a lifetime opportunity for for Penn State fans.”
Fans who take part won’t be able to use their own clubs but rather will be equipped with a handful of in-house options, although none higher than a nine-iron due to the limited distance in the stadium. In short, if you wanted to take out the press box with a few hooks and slices, you won’t quite be able to get that far from the launch point.
“The distance is about about 150-160 yards, depending for the farthest blue target.” Rykojc said with a laugh. “So a little bit of wind on your back, you might be able to make it to the end zone over there. I mean for liability issues we do limit the club’s selection here…. This is one of the cooler builds that we’ve done, especially height-wise. The majority of football builds will be on the first level. So being up on the second level here is just it’s awesome. It’s just a great view. You can see the mountains in the background and everything.”
