A tornado watch is in effect through Thursday night for a wide swath of central Pennsylvania, including Centre County.
According to the National Weather Service, a line of severe thunderstorms is expected to cross central Pennsylvania between approximately 5 and 10 p.m.
‘Some areas will see damaging wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph along this line of storms,’ a NWS alert said. ‘Given how strong the winds are in the lower levels of the atmosphere, isolated tornadoes are also a possibility.’
Hail up to the size of small marbles also is possible.
A tornado watch means that tornadoes are possible in or near the watch area. A warning would be issued if a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar.
The tornado watch is in effect until midnight for a 29-county area. It also includes parts of Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia.
