Two Centre County municipalities will receive a combined $690,726 in state grant funding for road improvements, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration announced on Tuesday.

Projects Patton Township and Potter Township were among 54 statewide awarded more than $47 million from the Multimodal Transportation Fund administered by PennDOT. The fund provides money to local governments and agencies for transportation improvements that enhance communities, pedestrian safety and transit access.

“When we invest in safer roads, bridges, ports and transit, we’re creating jobs, strengthening local economies, and making it easier for people to get where they need to go — whether that’s to work, school, or a small business on Main Street,” Shapiro said in a statement. “These projects deliver real results for communities across the Commonwealth and keep Pennsylvania moving forward safely and efficiently, no matter how they get around.”

Patton Township will receive $255,500 for pavement rehabilitation of 0.16 miles of Vairo Boulevard, including milling of existing pavement, installation of geotextile road fabric and
installation of new, additional asphalt pavement.

“The funding will allow the township to continue repairing road defects that have frustrated commuters along this busy route,” state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Rush Township, said. “I’m grateful to PennDOT and our local partners for helping to bring this funding home to get travel flowing more smoothly.”

“As our roadways age, repairs need to be made to ensure driver safety,” added state Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr., R-Cambria Co., whose 35th District includes Patton Township. “I am pleased to secure this funding for projects that will strengthen the resilience of our transportation infrastructure and improve safety for motorists.”

Potter Township will receive 435,226 for paving and safety improvements on Decker Valley Road.

The project will reduce maintenance cost, improve multimodal safety and provide better access to local businesses and Poe Valley State Park, according to the MTF application document.

Applications for the next round of MTF grants will open on Jan. 5 and will be due by 4 p.m. on Feb. 13, according to Conklin’s office. Grant recipients are expected to be announced in summer 2026. More information about the program and funded projects is available at the PennDOT website.
