A familiar face among local nonprofit organizations has been tapped to lead the Centre County United Way.

Wendy Vinhage will be CCUW’s new executive director, the organization announced Wednesday. Vinhage has been executive director of Interfaith Human Services, a United Way Partner Agency, since 2016.

“We are pleased to announce this appointment,” Nick Lingenfelter, chair of CCUW’s Board of Directors, said in a press release. “Wendy brings enthusiasm, energy and passion to the organization’s mission along with a deep sense of commitment to our community. She brings a wealth of experience having served other area nonprofits at the program, fundraising, and leadership levels, and has a breadth of perspective and experience.”

Vinhage has previously worked for Skills of Central PA and Boy Scouts of America Juniata Valley Council.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the United Way’s rich history of focusing on the needs of our community by supporting and collaborating with our partner agencies, local businesses, donors and volunteers” Vinhage said.

She will begin as executive director on July 25 and will succeed Tammy Gentzel, who announced in November her plans to step down after nine years of leading the organization.

‘The United Way Board of Directors extends heartfelt appreciation to Tammy Gentzel for her successful tenure as the United Way Executive Director from 2010 to 2019,’ a statement from the board said. ‘We are fortunate and grateful for her leadership and dedication to the community.’
