It’s a big weekend in Happy Valley. It’s a weekend about giving, a weekend about love, a weekend about THON.

ENTERTAINMENT

Like live music? SPA’s Noontime Concert Series presents Dirty Superb, a local soul-jazz band noon Friday at the HUB first floor lounge.

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? The State Theatre will be hosting the Regional Central PA Shakespeare Competition 10 a.m. Saturday. This is a free event!

We Can Do It: Female Power! Bea’s Performing Arts will be putting on a production of the feminist play “The Vagina Monologues” 8 p.m. Saturday at the State Theatre. ‘The Vagina Monologues’ portrays real women’s stories of intimacy, vulnerability and sexual self-discovery.

It’s the last week to celebrate Black History Month! The Black Caucus Jazz Festival is taking place 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Saturday in Paul Robeson Cultural Center’s Heritage Hall and will host six musicians and two interpretive dancers. This is a free event! Formal wear is suggested!

Penn State School of Theatre presents “Sunday in the Park with George” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night. Opening night is Friday at the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center.

FILM

The award-winning film “Precious: Based on the novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” will screen in the HUB Auditorium all weekend long. “Precious” is a movie about an overweight, illiterate African-American teen from Harlem who discovers an alternate path in life after she begins attending a new school. Supporting roles: Mariah Carey and Mo’Nique.

Love the classics? Treat yourself to “The Maltese Falcon,” a 1941 detective story starring the legendary Humphrey Bogart. “The Maltese Falcon” will play Sunday at 1p.m. at the State Theatre. Tickets cost only $1!

LATE NIGHT

Rock N’ Bowl Friday and Saturday night at Northland Bowl. Bring your friends and do some late-night bowling from 10:30 p.m.–3 a.m. And, don’t forget your appetite for $1 pizza slices!

BAR TOURS

Trying to maintain a budget? Well, you’re in luck!

Half-priced happies Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m.-11 p.m. at Bar Bleu and Inferno Brick Oven & Bar.
