For months, residents and visitors in the State College area have been dealing with delays caused by road work on North Atherton Street, as contractors for Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania relocate utility pipelines.
The work is being done in advance of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s planned roadway improvement project for Atherton Street between Aaron Drive and Park Avenue, the second phase of a project to improve the roadway and drainage.
Residents have grown frustrated by the long traffic delays that have resulted from the current work, which involves replacing 7,000 feet of gas pipelines. That is now expected to be completed the second week in November.
The highway restoration work, meanwhile, will begin in 2018 at Aaron Drive and move south from there.
