An eerie scene played out on South Allen Street Thursday night. Children and parents alike threw inhibition to the wind — becoming scary zombies — on a mission for good.
It all happened at Schlow Library’s third annual Zombie Walk Thursday. Participants were asked to bring non-perishable food items. The zombies carried the food to the State College Food Bank in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center to make a donation.
Everybody went back to Schlow for a Zombie costume contest and pageant in the library’s community room.
Event organizer and team librarian Karen Lambert says the Zombie Walk originally started as a small event with kids coming in to have their faces painted. It has developed into something more.
“Being supportive of the community is part of Schlow’s mission,” Lambert says. “Our mission is to bring people together.”
