Penn State men’s basketball made an unexpected late addition in the transfer portal.
The Nittany Lions on Wednesday afternoon added a commitment from St. Bonaventure transfer guard Dasonte Bowen, he announced on Instagram. Bowen averaged 10.9 points, 4.8 assists and three rebounds during 34.4 minutes per game last season as a senior with the Bonnies.
He also spent the 2024-25 campaign with St. Bonaventure, averaging similar numbers throughout 10 games before an injury derailed the season, allowing him to redshirt and pick up a fifth season of college basketball.
Prior to a two-year stint in western New York, Bowen spent two seasons in the Big Ten with Iowa. He appeared in 51 games with the Hawkeyes, making nine starts. In 2023-24, he averaged 4.4 points, two assists and1.3 rebounds in 13.5 minutes, primarily coming off the bench.
Though he doesn’t attempt many three-pointers and doesn’t convert them at a high rate, Bowen is a strong free-throw shooter at 81.3% across his career, including 85.2% last season. He’s effective from intermediate range and is a well-rounded player, hauling in rebounds on both ends of the court and playing strong defense.
The addition brings Penn State up to 14 players on its 2026-27 roster, one higher than last season and one lower than the maximum of 15 allowed by the NCAA.
