Miles Sanders is joining forces with his former Penn State teammate. Sanders has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced on Friday. It’s a move that will reunite Sanders and Micah Parsons, who played together on the Nittany Lions in 2018.
Sanders heads to Dallas after two years with the Carolina Panthers, with whom he signed a four-year, $25.4 million deal in 2023. He was released by Carolina earlier this week after combining for 637 rushing yards over the past two seasons.
An All-Big Ten honoree at Penn State, Sanders was ultimately picked by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons in Philadelphia, capping off his Eagles’ tenure with 1,269 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl selection in 2022.
Sanders is one in a handful of former Nittany Lions to sign new NFL contracts this offseason.
Saquon Barkley became the highest-paid running back in NFL history with a two-year, $41 million extension with the Eagles. Offensive lineman Will Fries signed a five-year, $88 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Wide receiver Chris Godwin returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year, $66 million contract. Tight end Mike Gesicki signed a three-year, $25 million deal to return to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Dan Chisena, a former walk-on at Penn State, re-signed with the Carolina Panthers on a one-year contract worth $940,000.
Sanders will look to improve a Cowboys franchise in need of help in the backfield. Dallas’ 1,705 rushing yards in 2024 ranked sixth-to-last in the NFL last season.
