Penn State completed the recruiting triple crown, with commitments in football, basketball and hockey on Tuesday.
The Nittany Lion football team earned a commitment from four-star, class of 2027 running back Aiden Gibson, he announced Tuesday evening on a CBS Sports YouTube livestream. Gibson ranks as the No. 8 South Carolina prospect, No. 22 running back and No. 322 overall recruit in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Entering his senior season at Woodruff High School, Gibson has a whopping 599 carries for 3,931 rushing yards (6.6 per carry) and 52 touchdowns to his name, plus 70 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 scores. He also participates on the track team, posting an 11.11-second personal best in the 100-meter dash.
Gibson held power conference offers from across the country but included Penn State, Louisville, Rutgers, South Carolina and North Carolina as his five finalists. He scheduled official visits to the Scarlet Knights, Nittany Lions, Gamecocks and Virginia Tech this summer, but he was recently in State College for an unofficial trip in early April.
Penn State’s 2027 squad is up to 16 total commitments and now has its first running back. The group remained ranked at No. 8 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten following Gibson’s announcement.
Elsewhere in Penn State athletics on Tuesday, the men’s basketball team picked up a commitment from Serbian forward Aleksandar Zecevic, while men’s hockey secured a pledge from defenseman Charlie Michaud.
