The USA Today preseason coaches poll is out, and Penn State is listed among the top 10 teams in the country.

The Nittany Lions are ranked No. 9, a decent bump after finishing last season four spots down at No. 13. Three other Big Ten teams rank above Penn State: Ohio State (2), Oregon (3) and Michigan (8). Penn State visits Ohio State on Nov. 2 but does not play new Big Ten member Oregon or Michigan this season.

Big Ten newcomer USC, which Penn State will face on Oct. 12 in Los Angeles, is ranked No. 23. Washington, another new Big Ten addition which Penn State will host on Nov. 9, fell just outside the top 25 as the top unranked team receiving votes.

West Virginia, which hosts the Nittany Lions on Aug. 31, is unranked but received 22 votes after a 9-4 season in 2023.

The preseason AP Top 25 Poll is set to release next Monday, Aug. 12, at noon ET.
