Riding a four-game losing streak, Penn State has begun taking losses off the field as well.
The Nittany Lions on Sunday afternoon lost a commitment from class of 2027 quarterback Will Wood, who flipped to Boston College. Wood is regarded as a consensus three-star recruit and the No. 3 Massachusetts prospect, No. 50 quarterback and No. 505 overall player in the 2027 class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Wood thanked head coach Matt Campbell and Penn State for recruiting him and expressed faith that “they will turn things around,” but he opted to join the Eagles and former Nittany Lion head coach Bill O’Brien instead.
Boston College was one of Wood’s two finalists during his initial recruitment before he pledged to Penn State. Now he’ll be staying closer to home, where the Eagles recently defeated Pitt 27-21 to advance to 3-3 this season.
The move leaves the Nittany Lions without a signal caller in the 2027 class, but four-star, class of 2028 quarterback James Armstrong remains committed. This late in the cycle, it would be difficult to add another 2027 quarterback. In the meantime, Alex Manske will enter his third season of college football in 2027, Kase Evans will be in his second and walk-on Jack Lambert will be in his fifth.
Additionally, class of 2026 four-star recruit Peyton Falzone, who was recruited as a quarterback, converted to tight end this offseason but may revert back to battle for the job. He’s seen 18 snaps on offense this season.
