Penn State saw no movement in the second AP Top 25 ranking of the college football season.
The Nittany Lions held serve at No. 2, though there’s a new top dog. Ohio State, which beat Texas 14-7 on Saturday, claimed the top spot from the Longhorns, who dropped to No. 7.
Penn State received seven first-place votes, second most in the country but fewer than the 23 first-place votes it received in the initial poll. The Nittany Lions rank just 44 points above No. 3 LSU, which shot up the rankings after beating Clemson on the road in a top-10 matchup.
James Franklin’s squad will travel to Columbus to play the Buckeyes on Nov. 1 in a potential one-versus-two matchup, if both teams are able to maintain their standing atop the rankings. To do so, Penn State will have to fend off Oregon, which moved up to No. 6, in the White Out on Sept. 27. If the Ducks can move up one spot over the next three weeks, it’ll create the first ever top-five White Out game.
The only other currently ranked team on the Nittany Lions schedule is No. 23 Indiana, which visits Happy Valley on Nov. 8. Nebraska, which will visit Penn State on Nov. 22, was in the others receiving votes category with 13 votes, making it the No. 35 team.
