Penn State suffered its first major blow to the offense on the injury front this season.
The Nittany Lions will be without emerging wide receiver Koby Howard for “an extended period of time,” head coach Matt Campbell said during his Wednesday press conference. Campbell said Howard is not out for the season, but didn’t provide any timeline for his return, saying more updates will be provided as he gets closer to full health.
“Obviously disappointing for Koby, but he’s handled it really well, and I think the best interest to him going forward, making sure we do right by him and certainly our football team,” Campbell said.
He did not discuss the nature Howard’s injury. On Tuesday, Campbell said Howard got “dinged up” during his second touchdown play against Buffalo on Saturday.
Howard has accounted for 12 receptions for 344 yards and three total touchdowns through three contests, making him a focal point of the offense in the early going.
“The reality is he’ll work just as hard to get back and better than ever,” Campbell said. “The rest of that room has got to continue to step up and make plays.”
