Penn State has its quarterback of the future.

The Nittany Lions on Friday afternoon earned a commitment from three-star prospect Will Wood, making him the lone quarterback in their 2027 recruiting class. Wood ranks as the No. 3 Massachusetts native, No. 29 quarterback and No. 490 overall recruit in the cycle, per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Wood’s commitment was expected, especially after Peter Bourque committed to Virginia Tech the previous day despite reports of a late push from Penn State. Though the Nittany Lions previously pursued Bourque, they recently turned their attention to Wood, sending offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser, quarterbacks coach Jake Waters, offensive line coach Ryan Clanton, wide receivers coach Kashif Moore and running backs coach Savon Huggins on an in-home visit.

Wood is listed at 6-foot-1.5 and 220 pounds and has drawn praise for his playmaking ability and accuracy. During his junior season at Xaverian Brothers High School, he led the team to an 11-2 overall record and was named the Catholic League MVP.

He earned offers from several power conference schools and scheduled visits to Boston College, West Virginia and Arkansas throughout June. The Eagles were viewed as Penn State’s main competition in the recruitment.

Following his decision, the Nittany Lions’ 2027 class holds 18 members and ranks No. 8 in the country and No. 4 in the Big Ten, per the 247Sports composite.
