Matt Campbell has reportedly filled the final coordinator spot on his staff.
Penn State is set to hire running backs coach Savon Huggins, according to a report by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Huggins spent the previous five seasons at Boston College, including the last four as running backs coach, with mixed results. He takes over for Stan Drayton, who’s off to South Carolina after one season in Happy Valley.
Notable running backs developed under Huggins include Turbo Richard, who had nearly 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2025, Kye Robichaux, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions last offseason and Pat Garwo, who was named second-team All-ACC in 2021 before showing regression.
The Eagles have ranked as high as No. 2 in the ACC and as low as last in the conference in rushing yards under Huggins, showing varying results. On the recruiting trail, Huggins is credited as the primary recruiter for three-star running backs Bo MacCormack III and Sedric Addison.
Huggins has coaching ties in the midwest and is a former running back at Rutgers (2011-14) and Northern Iowa (2015).
