Penn State men’s hockey junior goaltender Liam Souliere has been named to the watch list for the 2023 Mike Richter Award as announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) on Thursday. The award is presented annually to the top goalie in men’s NCAA Division I hockey.

So far this season, Souliere has started in 20 games for the Nittany Lions coming out with 15 wins over that span and 2.10 goals-against average as well as a .923 save percentage. Souliere currently leads the Big Ten and his 15 wins are second-best in the nation. The effort is currently the fifth-best single-season wins mark for a Penn State goalie in program history.

His 2.10 goals-against average is second in the conference and ranks 12th in the nation while his .923 save percentage is also tied for second in the Big Ten and 10th in the nation. Souliere and the Nittany Lions are back on the ice this weekend as they resume Big Ten play with a pair of games at No. 17 Michigan State.

“There were times when we did make mistakes [against Wisconsin], and [Souliere] showed up big,” Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky said earlier in the year. “It’s not just the numbers. It’s the timely goaltending that I think was really important for him, and it’s important for us.”
