Penn State men’s hockey is set to lose another skater to the transfer portal.
A report from Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald on Monday morning said defenseman Cade Christenson has entered the transfer portal, which officially opened earlier the same day. Christenson spent the last two seasons with the Nittany Lions, totaling seven goals and nine assists with 98 blocks across 60 games.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native posted a strong freshman campaign in 2024-25, earning unanimous Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors. He was also named to the Allentown Regional All-Tournament Team for his defensive efforts.
Christenson missed roughly half of the 2025-26 season with injury, and while he increased his goal total from two to five, all other metrics dropped significantly due to missed time. Listed at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Christenson was one of the larger players on the team and will likely command attention from top programs in the portal.
He joins forwards JJ Wiebusch and Nic Chin-DeGraves as other Nittany Lions reportedly going portaling this offseason.
