Penn State went two-for-two early Friday evening landing New York receiver Josiah Brown and in-state prospect Peter Gonzalez as both players verbally committed to the Nittany Lions.
Brown — a 5-foot-11, 170-pound Long Island native — is rated a four-star prospect and the No. 1 player in the state of New York for the 2024 recruiting class according to multiple recruiting outlets. The prospect from Holy Trinity Diocesan in Hicksville chose Penn State mainly over Rutgers but was offered and recruited by many different schools during the process.
Gonzalez, from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, hits the scales at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. He finds himself coming off a ACL tear he suffered in early 2022 but rebounded nicely, earning a committable scholarship offer in the process. Gonzalez, who is rated a three-star prospect by the On3 network, chose the Nittany Lions over the likes of Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. He, like Brown, will work with new Penn State receivers’ coach Marques Hagans.
Penn State’s 2024 class is now 20 players deep and was ranked the No. 7 class in the nation prior to the commitments, according to the 247 Network. The duo of receiver commitments gives the Nittany Lions three players at that position as Gonzalez and Brown join Tyseer Denmark a four-star prospect out of the Philadelphia based Roman Catholic. The Nittany Lions are looking to make it three-straight top 15 recruiting classes.
