Penn State men’s basketball added the services of 6-foot-5 transfer guard RayQuawndis Mitchell on Wednesday afternoon bringing the Nittany Lions to 10 scholarship players. Mitchell is the seventh player to join Penn State out of the transfer portal this spring following the departure of head coach Micah Shrewsberry and the hiring of new head coach Mike Rhoades. He announced his decision on Twitter.
Mitchell, who has one year of eligibility remaining, comes to Penn State having averaged 17.3 points per game with the Kansas City Roos in the Summit League. He also pulled down 3.8 rebound and dished out 1.6 assists per game. Mitchell has never shot better than 33.8% from beyond the arc but has averaged 2.1 or fewer fouls per game while playing over 35 minutes per contest last season and 28.5 minutes the year prior.
While at Kansas City, Mitchell scored 15 points in an early season loss at LSU but was held to just five points against Illinois a few days later, also on the road. Mitchell was held scoreless on just four shots in a road loss to Kansas State. During conference play Mitchell managed double-figures in every game last season and scored 25+ on five occasions over the course of the year.
He was named second-team All-Summit League following the season.
As a prospect Mitchell was unranked.
