Penn State Men’s Lacrosse Advances, Women Eliminated in NCAA Tournament

Penn State’s lacrosse teams drew split results over the weekend in their NCAA tournaments.

On Friday night, the women’s squad was defeated by Stanford, 7-5, ending their season in the opening round of the tournament.

The Nittany Lions were outshot 31-22 by the higher seeded Cardinal but kept the game competitive, taking a 5-4 lead into halftime before getting blanked in the final two frames.

Emma Kelly tallied two goals, while Delaney Radin, Erika Ho and Payton Wainman added one each.

On Saturday afternoon, the men’s team defeated Army 10-6, punching a ticket to the quarterfinal round on Sunday, May 17 in Delaware Stadium at a time to be announced.

The Nittany Lions’ next opponent will either be No. 1 overall seed Princeton or underdog Marist, with the game taking place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 10.

Fueled by the home crowd at Panzer Stadium, Penn State led the Black Knights from start to finish, including a 10-4 lead in the fourth quarter.

Hunter Aquino — who was recently named the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player after guiding the Nittany Lions to a conference championship — continued his dominant streak with a hat trick.

Andrew Beard and Michael Faraone contributed two scores each, while Luke Walstrum, Kyle Lehman and Brendan Leary also found the back of the net.
