Democrat John Fetterman will be Pennsylvania’s next U.S. senator, defeating Republican Mehmet Oz.

The Associated Press called the race for Fetterman shortly before 2 a.m., with 86% of the votes counted. The Democrat was leading with 49.9% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

“This campaign has always been about fighting for everybody that got knocked down, that ever got back up,” Fetterman said in his victory speech.

Oz had not conceded as of 1:55 a.m.

The seat was vacated by Republican Pat Toomey, who is retiring. Pennsylvania’s other senator is Democrat Bob Casey.
