Centre County Republican Jury Commissioner Hope Miller announced that she will seek a fourth term in office in this year’s election.
Miller was first elected in 2009. Among her achievements in her current term, she “was instrumental in initiating the current Ejury program that allows jurors to complete their registrations online, while giving the jurors a choice of communication options by email, text or regular mail,” according to her campaign announcement.
Two jury commissioners — one Democrat and one Republican — are elected to four year terms to administer the criminal and civil jury selection process, and both are up for election this year. Laura Shadle, who was appointed to fill the vacancy of the other jury commissioner position in early 2020, and Shelley Thompson are both seeking the Democratic nomination in the primary election.
Miller, who lives in Howard, is a native of Madisonburg and a lifelong Centre County resident.
Prior to serving as jury commissioner, Miller was an elected tax collector for 16 years and past president of the Centre County Tax Collectors’ Association for 11 years. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Centre County Association of Township Officials’ John Auman Leadership Award.
Miller is a 1973 graduate of Penns Valley High School and earned an associate degree in marketing and business management from Pennsylvania Business College in 1975.
She has been a school bus driver for Howard Elementary since 1993 and owns an independent distributorship for Shaklee, which produces health, beauty and cleaning products. She owned Miller Floral for 13 years before selling it in 1993.
Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania is May 18.
