Penn State will debut new security protocols and procedures at Beaver Stadium this weekend ahead of Saturday’s matchup with No. 2 Ohio State, the university’s athletics department announced on Wednesday.
The move comes after concerns were raised this week over Beaver Stadium’s security failures during last Saturday’s White Out game, which led to overcrowding and dangerous congestion at the student section entrance portals and an out-matched security staff.
“Safety is a primary concern at all Penn State Athletics events,” the athletic department statement said. “We are aware of the issues that student fans encountered on Saturday night when entering the bowl of Beaver Stadium via the vomitories.”
Students who enter through Gate A will now receive a non-transferable wristband that they will be required to show to enter to the student section, according to Penn State. This new protocol is designed to ensure that only students are able to go into the student section and gain entrance, limiting the risk of overcrowding.
Penn State Athletics also announced that it will implement an “operational change” in how the student section is filled, though it did not provide specific plans.
Beaver Stadium’s new procedures will take effect ahead of this weekend’s matchup with Ohio State and remain in place for the remainder of the season.
