Penn State football added another prospect from Alabama on Saturday afternoon as four-star safety DaKaari Nelson verbally committed to the Nittany Lions.
A 6-foot-3 safety from Selma, Alabama, Nelson is the 15th commitment to the Nittany Lions’ 2023 haul and the sixth defensive player in the class. He recently visited campus prior to making his decision.
Nelson is rated the No. 271 player in the nation, according to the 247 Network’s composite rankings, and the No. 19 overall prospect from the state of Alabama. He choose the Nittany Lions over the likes of Clemson, Tennessee and Arkansas.
His commitment gives Penn State its second prospect from Alabama in the 2023 cycle as he joins defensive end commit Tomarrion Parker, who is rated the No. 80 overall prospect in the nation by the 247 Network.
Penn State’s 2023 recruiting class is now ranked No. 3 overall in the nation by 247, just behind Notre Dame and Ohio State.
Saturday’s commitment also gives Penn State a second safety in the class as Nelson joins four-star prospect Conrad Hussey out of Florida. With Hussey, Nelson, Parker and Florida quarterback prospect Marcus Stokes, Penn State now has four southern-state prospects committed to its 2023 class.
