Penn State’s Eisenhower Parking Deck will partially reopen on Monday after being closed for several days because of a sinkhole.

The north section of the deck and the adjacent Yellow F surface lot will remain closed until further notice, according to the university’s transportation services office. Eisenhower Road also will remain closed between the entrance and exit, requiring vehicles to enter from the west end via Shortlidge Road and all exiting vehicles to travel east toward Bigler Road.

Overflow parking for Yellow F permit holders will be available at all Yellow HOrange and Commuter lots

A sinkhole opened near the front of the Eisenhower just before noon on Wednesday, causing the university to temporarily close the structure and the road “out of an abundance of caution.” People with vehicles inside the deck at the time were eventually able to retrieve them under the direction of university police and transportation services.

The deck is primarily used by faculty and staff and was not being used for student move-in, which has been ongoing this week, but it did cause some ripple effects resulting in a shuffle of campus parking.

Part of that was having some permit holders use the West Deck, and in turn West Deck student permit sales for long-term storage parking were put on hold. Those sales are now scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The transportation services office, which is located at the Eisenhower Deck, will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Staff have been working out of other locations since the closure.

Penn State police headquarters, also located at the deck, has been temporarily relocated to the station near Gate B at Beaver Stadium.
