Penn State women’s basketball is inching closer towards its 2022-23 season as the Big Ten announced on Thursday the Lady Lions’ full slate of conference opponents. Dates, times and television programming will be announced at a later time according to the conference.
The Lady Lions are set to face five schools at both Bryce Jordan Center and on the road as part of the Big Ten’s two-play slate. Penn State will most notably host Iowa which features National Player of The Year candidate and scoring phenom Caitlin Clark.
Additionally Penn State will host and travel to Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue and Rutgers. As for teams the Lady Lions will only face once, matchups with Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State and Wisconsin will take place at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Lady Lions will travel to Illinois, Maryland, Michigan and Nebraska.
All league teams play the four teams on the road they did not travel to last year (per the original 2021-22 schedule, exclusive of any cancelled games due to COVID-19 or weather). No team plays “away” games at all three most western (Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa) and all three most eastern schools (Rutgers, Maryland and Penn State).
Penn State coach Carolyn Kieger recently signed a new contract extension in spite of a fairly unremarkable opening three years of her tenure in State College.
“I am excited for the future of our program,” said Kieger at the time. “I am encouraged by the foundation we have built over the past three years and believe we have the pieces in place to propel this program back to prominence. I love our players, staff, and the Penn State Community and I am beyond motivated to lead our program into the future. Preparing our student-athletes for a lifetime of impact while building a legacy of success with honor remains the goal. I continue to be grateful to be part of this amazing University and I’m thankful to be surrounded by genuine people. The work continues. We Are!”
