Joe Paterno has been a lightning rod for controversy over the past few months since the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal broke. His name is now back in the news again.

The former Penn State Nittany Lions head coach was loved by many during his time at the school, but one man may have loved him the most. That man would be Pennsylvania senator Jake Corman.

Corman took to the floor on Monday, January 17 like a white knight to defend his beloved and befallen friend Paterno. He talks about how 60 years of his life work were all gone in a matter of days and that he was treated unfairly.

The Senator continues to compliment Paterno before finally revealing the huge plot twist that he went to PSU and is a proud supporter of the school.

Surprise, surprise.

Most of the words Corman spoke before breaking down had a tinge of homerism, while the actual crying and silence added to the soap opera feel of the whole situation.

The silence is the best part of the video—that awkward silence as everyone whispers about how he is making a fool of himself. That being said, I’m sure senator Corman is screaming on the inside.

For the record, he pauses for 25 seconds to collect his thoughts and yell at himself for doing what he promised not to. As if that wasn’t awkward enough, Corman wrestles out a few more lines before hitting the emotional wall. You can tell by the quiver lip.

After another 15-second pause, we watch as Corman seemingly forgets that he lost the whole middle part of his speech and just reads the ending without context. It’s classic. As the video winds down, Corman almost loses it one last time, but manages out a thank you for good measure.

I understand the connection to the institution and the man, but he did wrong and was let go because of it. It is something the PSU faithful have to deal with.

WE ARE! Confused.
