Penn State football moved up three spots to No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll on Sunday afternoon following a Saturday night 45-17 victory over Minnesota. The Nittany Lions are the third highest Big Ten team in the rankings behind No. 4 Michigan and No. 2 Ohio State.
The Wolverines were off this past weekend following a beatdown of the Nittany Lions the week prior in Ann Arbor. Ohio State, which visits State College this coming weekend dispatched Iowa 54-10, pulling away in the second half of that game in Columbus. Elsewhere in the conference Illinois rose to No. 17 in the nation to round out the Big Ten’s showing in the Top 25. Maryland was among 10 other teams receiving votes.
It was a fairly clam day across the top of the rankings in college football with the top six teams all holding steady with USC (No. 10) and Oklahoma State (No. 9) moving up two spots each to enter into the Top 10.
Penn State’s remaining schedule aside from Ohio State features no currently ranked teams. The Nittany Lions should be favored in the vast majority of their remaining games with a fairly good chance at finishing the regular season with 10 wins even if they fall this upcoming Saturday to Ohio State. The Buckeyes are the only undefeated team in the nation that has won all of its games by double figures.
