Penn State Football: Nittany Lions Open Three-Point Favorite at Purdue

Penn State football is an early a three-point favorite against Purdue in the Nittany Lions’ season opener on the road in West Lafayette, according to BetOnline.

The game will kick on Sept. 1, although no time for the contest has been announced.

Purdue went 9-4 in 2021 winning five of its final six games of the year, including wins at then No. 2-ranked Iowa and at home against then No. 3-ranked Michigan State, as well as a victory over Tennessee in the Music City Bowl.

The Nittany Lions have won nine-straight against the Boilermakers last falling to Purdue in 2004 with two of the Boilermakers’ three wins in the series coming at home. Penn State has not given up more than 24 points in any of the last nine meetings most recently winning 35-7 in a 2019 clash between the two programs in State College.

Penn State last faced Purdue on the road in 2016, winning that game 62-24.

This season marks the third-straight year Penn State has opened the year on the road, beating Wisconsin 16-10 in 2021 and falling to Indiana in overtime during a COVID-19 shortened season in 2020. The Nittany Lions are set to open the 2023 campaign in State College against West Virginia and then Delaware before facing Illinois in Week 3 of the currently announced slate.

Penn State will return home following its Week 1 clash against Purdue to host Ohio before traveling down south to take on Auburn in the second game of the two-game series between the programs.
