Penn State slid to No. 7 in the latest AP Poll following a 23-20 loss to Iowa on Saturday night.

The Nittany Lions’ ranking is largely a secondary issue for Penn State as the team awaits further evaluation of quarterback Sean Clifford, who left the game in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury. Backup quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson played all of the second half with little effect.

Penn State is the third-highest ranked Big Ten team in the Top 25 with Iowa coming in at No. 2 behind Georgia following Alabama’s last-second loss to Texas A&M. Ohio State rose one spot in the rankings to No. 6 just ahead of the Nittany Lions. The two teams will play at the end of October.

Michigan is ranked just behind Penn State at No. 8 while Michigan State sits at No. 10.

The Nittany Lions will face all of the Big Ten’s remaining ranked teams.

Former Penn State backup quarterback Will Levis and Kentucky are ranked No. 11 and 6-0 on the year.
